Third Mall Death This Week After Man Falls From 11th Floor of Mangga Dua
A man fell to his death from the 11th floor of North Jakarta’s Mangga
Dua Square shopping mall in the early hours of Friday morning, Jakarta
Police said.
It is the third death in a Jakarta mall this week, although police are yet to confirm if the latest incident was a suicide.
The
35-year-old victim was identified as Richard Kurniawan, a resident of
Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. Police said the man fell from the 11th floor
at around 3:25 a.m. He reportedly came from the Sands nightclub, which
is located in the mall.
Officials transported the body to
Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital for an autopsy. His widow and family then
took the body to Gatot Subroto Hospital to prepare it for burial.
The
body of the victim was discovered by a mall security officer, Nahdori
Sudirman, who immediately contacted Pademangan Police.
Comr.
Boy Rafli Amar, the head of the Metro Jaya Police’s public relations
office, said that the victim suffered serious head injuries as a result
of the fall as well as breaking both arms and legs.
Police are
yet to determine whether the death was an accident or a suicide and
officers are still gathering information from witnesses and processing
the scene.
On Monday night, Reno, a resident of Patal Senayan
in South Jakarta, jumped to his death from the fifth floor of Senayan
City mall, less than four hours after a 24-year-old woman identified as
Ice Juniar committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of Grand
Indonesia mall.
