Indonesian President Donates a Plump Cow For Idul Adha Holiday
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Boediono each donated a cow to Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta on Friday. Yudhoyono asked for the cow's meat to be distributed to people in need.
"With God's permission, I am giving a cow to Istiqlal Mosque. Slaughter it and distribute the meat. May Allah approve of the deed," Yudhoyono said.
The representative of the grand mosque, Zulkifli Rahman, accepted the cow. Yudhoyono's cow stood out in the crowd. Out of the 20 cows slaughtered at the mosque, the president's cow was the fattest.
Both cows were later weighed and Yudhoyono's cow was the heaviest, weighing 1350 kilograms. Boediono's cow ‘only’ weighed 970 kilograms.
"The cows (Yudhoyono's and Boediono's) are plump and clean," the mosque's secretary Subandi told detik.com.
The cows will be slaughtered on Friday night at 8 pm along with 230 goats.
The meat will be distributed on Saturday starting at 5 a.m. The mosque is prepared to distribute it to 6000 people. To avoid chaos or a stampede, the distribution will be guarded by 65 policemen. The committee will require everyone to dip their index finger in ink after they receive the meat to avoid people taking double portions.
