Japanese Porn Star’s Visit Delayed Due to Indonesian Uproar

The controversial visit of Japanese porn star Miyabi to shoot a movie in Indonesia has been postponed until an undetermined date, one of the fim’s producers said on Monday.

Oddi Mulya Hidayat, from Maxima Pictures, told the Jakarta Globe that after the production house’s board of directors met with the film’s creative team, they decided to postpone the visit of Miyabi, whose real name is Maria Ozawa, to Jakarta.

Her planned visit and cameo part in a local movie has sparked heated protests from conservative groups in recent weeks, with students in Kudus, Central Java, voicing their disapproval by setting fire to women’s underwear on Monday.

“She was supposed to arrive on Oct. 14,” Oddi said, “but now we cannot say for sure when she will visit.”

He claimed that Miyabi’s management had detected hostility regarding her visit to Indonesia, but would not elaborate. Miyabi’s management in Japan could not be reached for comment.

Miyabi was scheduled for a cameo role in “ Menculik Miyabi ” (“Kidnapping Miyabi”), a comedy about two Indonesian college students who plan to kidnap the porn star to exploit her fame. The producers said it would not contain any pornographic scenes.

Oddi said the movie would go ahead even though the timeline was now uncertain, and may even be shot in Japan.

During the Kudus protest, about 20 students rallied at a local Islamic university chanting “Reject Miyabi.” Later, they burned women’s underwear as a symbolic gesture of their disapproval.

Protest coordinator Anas said the porn star’s involvement in an Indonesian film would indirectly promote pornography.

On Friday, about 50 members of the hardline Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) protested in front of Maxima Pictures’s office in Central Jakarta.

It's definitely a publicity stunt initiated by the producers and people are playing into their hands. That's what I call "cheap publicity." Damn smart move!

When are these stupid people going to get it into their thick heads that they are being played. The producers of Menculik Miyabi must be grinning from ear to ear.
