There Are No Case Brokers At the KPK, Says Chairman
The temporary chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean, had denied the existence of case brokers at the commission.
“There are no ‘legal mafia’ or case brokers at the KPK. What we did find were rogue officers who used the KPK’s name,” Tumpak said during a hearing with House of Representatives Commission III, the National Police and Attorney General at the parliament building on Wednesday.
“Everybody who comes to the KPK (office) is identified and recorded on video cameras,” he added.
The commission had sent frequent notices to state officials in Indonesia to verify directly with the KPK if they are approached by people using the KPK’s name to cut down on the possibility of impostors.
“No matter how small, any piece of information we receive about KPK officers will be followed up by our internal auditor,” Tumpak said.
Tumpak’s statement was in response to Attorney General Hendarman Supandji, who previously said during the hearing that a reform program in bureaucracy was needed. The program, according to Hendarman, would enable the public to file complaints about law enforcement agencies, including case brokers.
