Saudi Boss Accused Of Abusing Indonesian

Indonesia is calling for the prosecution of a Saudi Arabian national for allegedly abusing his Indonesian employee for 13 months, a labor official said on Sunday.

Syamsi, head of the Lebak Manpower and Social Welfare Agency in Banten, said his office had sent medical examination reports of migrant worker Bayi, 28, to the Indonesian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, paving the way for torture charges for her employer, a member of the Fahad bin Dakil family in Al Ahssa.

“I demand that the employer of Bayi, a female migrant worker from Cisaat, Bolang village, Malingping subdistrict, be prosecuted in the country of the crime, Saudi Arabia,” Syamsi was quoted by the state Antara news agency as saying on Sunday.

Bayi has alleged she was tortured daily in the 13 months she worked for the Fahad bin Dakil family.

Syamsi said that although Bayi was recovering physically, she required psychological treatment for the traumatic abuse.

Bayi has also alleged that her salary was withheld for eight months starting in September 2008, and that she only received five months salary and a ticket to return to Indonesia.

She said she had contacted the labor supplier agency who sent her there and that the company, PJTKI Kemuning Sejati in Rawamangun, East Jakarta, promised to fight for her outstanding payments and to follow up the legal process of her domestic abuse report.

“We want the migrant worker matter solved and to put her employer behind bars,” Syamsi said.

He also expressed his concern over the serious injuries suffered by the mother of two. It is alleged that both of Bayi’s cheeks and ears were burned with an iron and that her head and limbs were swollen from beatings. She has said she was unable to move her right arm due to injuries.

“We hope the Indonesian Embassy in Saudi Arabia can work on the legal process against Bayi’s employer and ask them to compensate [for the abuse] the migrant worker from Lebak district,” Syamsi said.

Bayi’s husband, Karsa, 35, said he could not bear to see his wife crippled by the abuse.

“I can only entrust the matter to local government and the labor agency who recruited her,” he said.

Meanwhile, another Indonesian migrant worker, accompanied by representatives of her agency in Malaysia, reported to the Malaysian Police that she had been raped by a family member of her employer.

The alleged sexual abuse occurred when she was “borrowed” by the family member to clean his new home in Bukit Mahkota, Bangi, Selangor, prior to a housewarming party. The chief of Kajang’s Police, Shakaruddin Che Mood, confirmed the report.

According to Malaysian newspapers, the alleged offender, 40, borrowed his sister’s domestic servant for a couple of days to clean his new house.

The servant then reported the assault to Kajang Police, Selangor, who detained the alleged perpetrator for questioning.

The Malaysian Police have promised to prioritize the case, and said the victim would not return to Malaysia.
