Your View: The Daily Debate

We asked: How can the government persuade terrorists that the bombings will not serve their purpose?
You replied:

The government could approach religious leaders and listen to what they have to say — grievances, frustrations, etc. — and also encourage them to establish better communications between the smallest religious groups and nationwide organizations. This could serve as a preventive mechanism. Evelyn, Jakarta

Start by not looking the other way when the country’s most respected religious institutions are found to have ties, however small, with militant groups. Anon

We asked: Do the Komodo dragons need to be moved or should they be left in their habitat?
You replied:

I agree with the West Manggarai residents who say that moving the Komodo will jeopardize the district’s tourism prospects. The main thing here is, is the decision based on the Komodo’s best interests? There are other ways to protect them.

Singapore Coroners’ Court Concludes Indonesian Student’s Death Was Suicide
I love Singapore and its food and shopping, but Singapore is known for highly repressing its own media and controlling it for their own purposes. The Indonesian media is of course biased, but it’s more true of the Singaporean media.

The Terrorism Here Bears All the Signs of Terrorism There
Isn’t it time for Asean to deliberate on this? I would suggest that Asean organize a joint military operation to eradicate terrorism in Mindanao. Mindanao is fertile ground for extremists. Look at the geopolitics of the area. Their idea of war is primarily to create chaos and incite anarchy. Bombings follow with declarations of their desire to kill US/Australian citizens and other so-called “fakirs.” It is evident that they include Indonesia within their killing zone. Valkyrie
